With the alpha release of GenerateBlocks (1.7), I have made the decision to move this site from Avada to GeneratePress. While I am still a fan of Avada, it is becoming less and less necessary as the Gutenberg landscape continues to mature. The alpha release adds full control over flexbox (unavailable in Avada), streamlines the code, and adds tabs and accordions. On top of that, finding out that I can add a “load more button” using a wpGridbuilder facet removes the last hurdle for me for traditional blog sites.
Transitioning from one theme to another
A quick shoutout to Pressable for making this process so easy. I was able to spin up a staging site, build out the basic design, and import the posts and images from the old site (thank goodness all posts were already using Gutenberg). All that was left was to recreate a couple of pages, and voila.
I am getting ready to start writing more about my experiences with WordPress and GeneratePress and Blocks on this site, so stay tuned.
